Beside HIV, Hepatitis could be one of problems among IV drug addicts. Its transmission is same with the HIV: blood or body fluid exchange, sexual contact even. There are several types of hepatitis virus, hepatitis virus type B and C are the most common. The mode of transmission is clear: through a sharing syringe between drug users. Both of hepatitis B and C are likely to cause liver problems that lead to liver failure because the damage and even to liver cancer.

The infection of hepatitis B or C could big problems, these viruses make damage over the entire liver as it will lead to liver failure . The damage of the liver that can not be restored will form scar tissue. This scar tissue can not take over the liver system. Also this damage would lead to liver cancer as the scar tissue keeps formed.

Hepatitis B can be cured or at least it is a self limiting disease which only needs supportive drugs to relieve the symptoms. But some of the cases hepatitis B could lead to chronic condition or severe infection  which likely to cause liver failure. Since this kind of infection is pretty serious, you may stop the transmission of hepatitis B virus by stopping from using drugs especially the drugs that injected into your body through a sharing syringe.

The infection of hepatitis C is as serious as hepatitis B, only that hepatitis B is causing greater damage and would likely to cause liver cancer more often than hepatitis B. The correlation of hepatitis C to the IV drug user is common among them. Even, there are super infection between hepatitis type B and C and other type of hepatitis even HIV.
