Pregnancy is something that every married couple is waiting for, so they need to take care of the pregnancy so the baby that will born later will not in handicapped state. Almost every people drink alcohol, but the excessive alcohol consumption will bring some disadvantages to health, especially for under special circumstance: pregnancy. It is acknowledged that alcohol consumption excessively during pregnancy is prohibited.

Alcohol in pregnancy can cause many problems to the mother and the fetus. The problems that would likely to be found in fetus are:

1. Mental Retardartion

Mostly alcohol works on the human brain by blocking the inhibition system so the consumer can not stop to do anything beyond the consciousness. But in pregnancy, alcohol is not only work on mother’s brain, but it affects the fetus brain and one of the most found cause is mental retardation. Mental retarded kids are having problems in adapting to their environment, this condition will likely to cause the problems to their adulthood. So, any pregnancy woman is advised not to drink much alcohol during her pregnancy.

2. Fetal Death

Excess alcohol in pregnant mother’s blood is toxic to the fetus, it is common for the alcoholism woman to get miscarriage during her pregnancy if she does not stop the alcohol consumption, especially during the first trimester of her pregnancy.

3. Premature Birth

One of the effect of consuming alcohol is premature birth, means the baby is born less than 37 weeks or at least having weight less than 2500 gram. Premature birth is not good for the baby, because the baby is in immature growth condition, this is affecting many organs to the baby such as lungs and heart. The baby that born in premature is having high risk in respiratory distress syndrome which the lungs are not yet well developed. There is also heart problem: PDA (Patent Duct Arteriosus) which connects between aorta and pulmonary vein, in premature baby this duct sometimes can not shrink well, later the baby will have heart defect that cause the baby to blue or carbondioxide poisoning, because the circulation is not good.

It is the time for you to realize the disadvantages of excess alcohol consumption. Protect your baby from the handicapped state, and be a good mother by not drinking alcohol during your pregnancy. If you are in addict status, you can start to rehab yourself, contact any humanitarian organization that fights against alcohol consumption or to any rehabilitation center.

Alcoholism is considered as one of the addiction, although alcohol is widely used in many western country. Excess drinking of alcohol is not only bad to your healthiness such as to cause problems to liver and pancreas, also alcohol could cause problem to mental health especially to the social status of the people who consume excessively. Marijuana has been known made from a plant called Cannabis sativa. The most common part used from this plant   is the leave.
