Teen addiction

It is really more tough for the teenagers who are experiencing substance abuse problems, for the fact that there minds are not fully developed as yet to handle the trials and tribulations of life, and this is what puts them at such a high risk of having teen addiction.

It is not there intentions to go out and become substance addicts, there main criteria is to go out and have fun and seek adventures, learning experiences, but drugs are there to intercept natural fun for fun anyways, but at the end someone’s life is jeopardized.

Teens are not fully aware of the dangers of drugs and how it can become dangerous, they haven’t really seen or understood the type of effects of negative consequences that could manifest due to substance abuse and addiction.

The legal drugs, such as tobacco and alcohol, which is so widely used and have a high addictive quality, is a norm for teens to try and use due to peer pressure of fitting in and being adult, they all want to do adult things, but unable to recognize the consequences of being adult.

The greatest risk for using a variety of drugs is among teens with low self esteem or who suffers from psychological issues.

The frequency of drugs among teenagers is justified by a survey which was done by MTF (monitoring of future  survey) found that marijuana accounts for the vast majority of illicit drug use but alcohol and binge drinking remains the most popular drug of abuse and a ten percent number of teens use prescription drugs without a prescription.

Substance abuse is just one of the major risk factors relating to suicide, other factors could be events that are stressful, like losing a job or a loved one, mental illness and depression.

Suicide in general whether among teens or adults is a result of hopelessness when a person feels trapped because of a situation they’ve found themselves in and begin to  look for a way to escape, but sometimes the escape in substance can lead to deeper problems and thus suicide seem like the only way out.

Teens in general are using what they call today club drugs which are considered 1. Ecstasy, also known as e, x or beans, it’s a stimulant and gives a feeling of euphoria and increased energy, 2. Crystal meth, also known as meth, ice, glass, or speed, is a more powerful stimulant which can keep a user up for days, 3. GHB, also known as juice, G, or liquid ecstasy, it gives a feeling of drunkenness and euphoria which could induce coma or even death, 4. Ketamine, also known as K, special K, could exhibit paranoia, 5. Rohypnol, known as roofie or roches, this is the infamous date rape drug which is considered a hypnotic and is part of the benzodiazepine class of medication.

Teenage substance abuse has been around from generation unto generation and now the awareness is so open that it is up to parents to talk and educate their teens on the dangers of substance abuse so hopefully in the future there will be less and less young people becoming addicted to substances.

Very informative post. This is what our society is nowadays. I am not sure who is to blame, if it is the government, parents, friends or the individual itself. Bottom line is, each and everyone in the society should work together to eliminate this deadly social menace.

Thank you for the comment. To answer your concern about who is to blame goes way back in history, you can look at government, society, media, family, all have a hand in the destruction of our children and people in general, thank God, there are places with resources to help everyone. Check out article “drugs origin” may be a little helpful.
