Some addicts require a prescription drug rehab

There are many myths about drug abuse. One of the most common is that prescription drugs are not addictive. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

People also often assume that as long as the medication has been prescribed by a doctor there is no danger in their use. Usually, drugs that are prescribed will not cause harm as long as they are used as intended. But sometimes they can be misused, requiring the addicted person to consider checking themselves into a prescription drug rehab.

Prescription drugs are more often abused than glorified street drugs like cocaine and heroin. Only marijuana has a higher rate of being abused. And close to half all drug overdoses come from the misuse of prescribed drugs.

Drugs that fall into this category include painkillers, sedatives, and stimulants. Among them are Oxycontin, Valium, Xanax, Vicodin, and Ritalin.

What makes things more complicated for people who become addicted to prescribed medication – or over-the-counter medication – is that they are often taking the drug to help them cope with some sort of pain.

To address this kind of addiction, it is necessary for the prescription drug rehab to consider how the issue of pain can be addressed while at the same time fighting the addiction that has resulted from the use of these drugs.

Once someone has become addicted to a prescription drug, they may have to consider a prescription drug rehab to help them confront their dependence.

Before entering a prescription drug rehab, the addict may have to spend some time in a drug detox centre to break the immediate physical effects of the drug. This is particularly true of opioids like Oxycontin and morphine. These drugs will require the user to go through a physical withdrawal before real treatment of long-term issues can begin.

In a prescription drug rehab, the addict can begin the process of addressing issues in their lives that have contributed to their addiction. In a prescription drug rehab they will have the chance to look at ways to change their way of life so that they can begin living a clean and sober lifestyle.

One approach often used in prescription drug rehab centres is called Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). This is a discipline in which clients are encouraged to consider how their thinking patterns, feelings and behaviours interact. By changing one’s thinking, it is possible to change thoughts and behaviours.

Many addicts have found that addressing the spiritual aspect of recovery has been essential to their ability to get better. Whether they are have checked themselves into an in-patient prescription drug rehab or whether they are using out-patient counselling and therapy, addicts may prefer treatment facilities that support the use of 12-step programs like Alcoholics Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous, or Narcotics Anonymous.

Before choosing a prescription drug rehab, it is necessary to consider whether the facility you are looking at has sufficient specialization in this particular kind of addiction. And obviously any prescription drug rehab must have fully qualified staff and a well-developed program of treatment.

The umbrella term "drug rehabilitation", also referred to as "drug rehab", is a complex of therapeutic measures and procedures (pharmaceutical, psychotherapeutic, medical, etc.) to help an individual get rid of his or her drug dependency, including psychological and physical types of dependency on various psychoactive agents, such as "street drugs" (amphetamine, crystal meth, heroin, cocaine, etc.), alcohol, prescription drugs, and so on. Various measures of drug rehabilitation are intended to enable the drug user to quit taking drugs and, therefore, to avoid numerous negative consequences and implications of substance abuse - legal, physical, physiological, social, and financial.

We understand that recovery is a very personal thing, especially for busy and successful high-powered executives. That’s why we say that all communications are confidential, before, during and after recovery.
