Understanding addiction is the key to a Miami drug rehab program

One of the key elements in any in-patient Miami drug rehab are educational workshops that help the addict or alcoholic to better understand how the disease of addiction works.

One of the first things that a Miami drug rehab will try to teach the addict is the effect of different chemicals on the brain. They will explain that prolonged, heavy use of any addictive chemical will bring about changes in the brain.

And once those changes have taken place, it becomes even more difficult for the addict to perceive things as they are. In the Miami drug rehab the addict will learn how different drugs (including alcohol) provoke the release of dopamine in the brain. This affects the reward/pleasure mechanism.

It will be explained in the Miami drug rehab that the artificial stimulation of dopamine production causes dopamine receptors to die off. This makes it more and more difficult for the addict to feel pleasure without the drug.

As use of the drugs continues, the addict or alcoholic feels they must use the substance just to function. In the Miami drug rehab, the addict is helped to learn skills for how they can enjoy life without the use of drugs.

Diagrams of the addicted brain shown in the Miami drug rehab demonstrate to the addict that the wiring and chemistry have been altered.

Is there any good news in all of this? Yes. The addict will learn in their Miami drug rehab program that the brain can recover, that dopamine receptors can regenerate and that it is possible for the addict to learn how to enjoy life again – without chemical stimulation.

Another key thing that they’ll learn is how the brain’s judgment center is affected by prolonged drug use (this is particularly the case with cocaine). The Miami drug rehab will show how the brain’s frontal lobe (which regulates judgment) is impaired by drug use. The addict knows that their behaviour is destructive and wrong, but they seem unable to do anything about it.

The umbrella term "drug rehabilitation", also referred to as "drug rehab", is a complex of therapeutic measures and procedures (pharmaceutical, psychotherapeutic, medical, etc.) to help an individual get rid of his or her drug dependency, including psychological and physical types of dependency on various psychoactive agents, such as "street drugs" (amphetamine, crystal meth, heroin, cocaine, etc.), alcohol, prescription drugs, and so on. Various measures of drug rehabilitation are intended to enable the drug user to quit taking drugs and, therefore, to avoid numerous negative consequences and implications of substance abuse - legal, physical, physiological, social, and financial.

We understand that recovery is a very personal thing, especially for busy and successful high-powered executives. That’s why we say that all communications are confidential, before, during and after recovery.
