There are many elements that go into making a successful Alberta drug rehab.
Whether they’re located in Edmonton, Calgary, or another city in the province, an Alberta drug rehab has the difficult task of helping addicts and alcoholics to recover from the devastating disease of addiction.
There are many things that make addiction a challenge to treat. For one thing, the addict or client on an Alberta drug rehab may not even be in the facility willingly. They may have been ordered by the courts to be there, or required by their employers to start treatment as a condition of continuing in the job.
And some other clients of the Alberta drug rehab may have entered the facility only after an intervention by their family and friends. Their reaction to the intervention may have been hostile or at best indifferent, but nonetheless they have agreed to enter treatment.
Then, of course, there’s the addicted person who knows they have to change their life and who have come to the Alberta drug rehab as a last resort. Drinking or drugging has cost them greatly in their lives. They may have lost all their possessions as a result of their thirst for drugs.
They may have lost relationships with wives, husbands, children or parents. They have entered an Alberta drug rehab in a last ditch effort to recapture the life they once had.
Some experts in the field in Alberta believe that addiction can be partly genetic (alcoholics often have alcoholic parents), while others feel that a destructive and abusive childhood is to blame.
While there is no conclusive answer to this question, it seems that a multi-disciplinary approach to the problem can have the best results. That’s why Alberta drug rehabs look at the physical living environment of the addict along with other influences throughout their life.
Some experts also believe that full recovery isn’t possible without following the Alberta drug rehab experience with involvement in a 12-step program of recovery. Combining a spiritual approach with a psychological one can be very effective.

The umbrella term "drug rehabilitation", also referred to as "drug rehab", is a complex of therapeutic measures and procedures (pharmaceutical, psychotherapeutic, medical, etc.) to help an individual get rid of his or her drug dependency, including psychological and physical types of dependency on various psychoactive agents, such as "street drugs" (amphetamine, crystal meth, heroin, cocaine, etc.), alcohol, prescription drugs, and so on. Various measures of drug rehabilitation are intended to enable the drug user to quit taking drugs and, therefore, to avoid numerous negative consequences and implications of substance abuse - legal, physical, physiological, social, and financial.
